OThe March for Health Equity
|
On September 4-7, 2009, concerned individuals from all over the country will assemble in Alabama for a Health
Equity march from Selma to Montgomery.

On behalf of the Student National Medical Association, we
welcome you to our March for Health Equity Sponsors Page.
Established in 1964, the SNMA is the nation's oldest and
largest student organization focused on the needs and
concerns of medical students of color. Our membership
numbers in excess of 9,000 medical students, premedical
students, residents and physicians worldwide.
There has already been extensive discussion regarding
health care reform.
Current data supports our current healthcare system is
markedly flawed with more than 45 million Americans uninsured
and 24% of the American population underinsured. With limited
access to quality healthcare, the less fortunate in our society
are doomed to fall victim to any number of staggering
disparities in healthcare. Founded on a vision of empowerment
and advocacy, the SNMA is rooted in a commitment to address
inequities in medical education, racial and ethnic disparities,
and injustices in U.S. domestic and foreign healthcare policy. In
this rich tradition, our membership aims to ensure that our
lawmakers understand and consider the plights of the
underserved and more importantly, execute healthcare reform
legislation to address the needs of frequently overlooked
communities.
It is with this fervor for justice that we organize The March for
Health Equity. During September 4-7, 2009 in Selma and
Montgomery, Alabama, medical students, alongside our
community neighbors, will march to call attention to this all-
important element of the unfinished civil rights agenda. We
march to demand appropriate redress for the health
inequalities that persist. We march because we as young
future physicians have a powerful and unified voice that echoes
far and wide and on behalf of those who go unheard.
We March for Health Equity. This is an extraordinary
opportunity to influence change.
Your support empowers our organization to give greater
attention to the needs of Americans with inadequate medical
care. As a student association, SNMA relies upon generous
donors to both continue and strengthen its efforts. In return for
your generous support, we offer visibility and
acknowledgement consistent with your level of giving. SNMA is
also a registered non-profit and public charitable organization
and donations are tax deductible within the limits of the law.
We invite you to join in our efforts by becoming a corporate
sponsor.
We are encouraged that you have taken the time to learn
about The March for Health Equity. Your contribution – whether
financial as an activist or volunteer – will be appreciated. You

Student National Medical Association will be the voice of change
