Opening Dinner – Montgomery, AL (8:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
Welcome participants to the weekend’s activities. Outline
schedule of events.
Saturday, September 5
Health Fair - Camden, AL (9:00 AM - 2:00 PM)
The volunteer, kick-off event offering participants the chance
to offer healthcare and health education to residents of the
Black Belt. Working with the Spirit of Luke Foundation, we will
be traveling to Camden, AL for the first of the weekend's
service events.
March for Health Equity - Selma, AL (3:00 PM - 7:00 PM)
Commemorative march from Selma’s Brown Chapel A.M.E.
Church over the Edmund Pettus Bridge paying tribute to
those who marched for equality in 1965. A historic tour of
several of the sights from the 1965 Selma to Montgomery
marches will be provided by the National Voting Rights
Museum and Institute. A reverent motorized tour will carry
participants along US Highway 80 back to Montgomery,
stopping for other historic landmarks along the way.
Community Dinner - Montgomery, AL (8:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
Dinner with community leaders and health professionals in
Montgomery, AL. Discussion of the healthcare needs of Black
Belt communities.
Sunday, September 6
Sunday Service – Historic Montgomery Churches (optional)
Visit historic churches (Dexter Avenue Baptist Church and St.
Paul AME Church) while encouraging churchgoers to join us
for our afternoon rally.
Rally/Concert/Health Fair (3:00 PM - 7:00 PM)
Rally for Health Equity on the steps of the State Capitol
Building. Speakers to address Health Equity and Eliminating
Health Disparities. Special Guest performances to provide
your Sunday afternoon entertainment! Second volunteering
opportunity with Health Fair to provide screening and
education to the residents of Montgomery, AL and
surrounding counties.
Closing Dinner – Montgomery, AL (8:00 PM - 10:00 PM)
Recap weekend’s activities. Outline next steps in SNMA’s
ongoing Campaign for Health Equity.
